Ben O’Donoghue
For chef and television presenter Ben O’Donoghue, cooking is a passion and a reflex, it’s something he’s done since childhood and it never ceases to give him pleasure or stimulate his imagination.

Ben started his career working in a number of top class Australian restaurants including Tribeca and Goodfellas in Sydney and Jessica’s in Perth before moving to London ten years ago. For four years he worked at The River Café and then joined his mate Jamie Oliver at the exclusive Monte's Club as Executive chef. His television credits also include four series of the internationally acclaimed food and travel program, Surfing the Menu.

Sean Connolly from Astral
Sean’s passion for cooking started at a young age in the UK. His talent quickly led to his appointment at Star City’s Astral in 1995. With a modern European influence, Astral’s menu reflects his commitment to fresh, local produce. Guests enjoy many dining options, from the customised menu in the breathtaking private dining room to the fast and fabulous pre-theatre dishes.

Upon naming Sean the 2008 Sydney Morning Herald Chef of the Year, co-editor Joanna Savill noted: “Blessed with sound technique, wit, imagination and the intelligence not to try to hard, Connolly continues to entertain and please us,”and it is this “potential for even greater things and sheer bloody talent” that ensures his star will continue to rise.

Wish List Images

ABOUT THE WISH LIST
You have a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a child in your community. Add a wish list item to your ticket or table booking and make a child's day!
You can purchase an item from our wish list below and receive a 100% tax deductible receipt. Contact us for more information.

Variety Kids Christmas PartyVariety Kids Christmas Party $200
Variety is proud to host the biggest party for kids every year, with thousands of disadvantaged and special needs children attending this mammoth event. The children are treated to an enormous array of activities and experiences, and each child also receives fantastic presents. Your donation of $200 would ensure a special child will be treated to a day they will truly treasure*

BoardmakerTheraTogs $868
Two-and-a-half-year-old Billy has significant delays in gross and fine motor skills, and he has been trialling TheraTogs with great success. TheraTogs are special suits with straps that the child wears, and in Billy’s case the TheraTogs provide him with the stability around his core (pelvis, trunk and shoulders) that he requires to effectively and accurately move his arms and hands, allowing him to engage in play to a greater extent. In addition to providing him with the opportunity to develop physical arm and hand skills, it also increases his participation and engagement with toys, enhancing his ability to learn through play experiences*

Suction wigHuman hair suction wig $3,600
Rochelle is now 16 and has suffered from Alopecia for most of her life. Being a teenager has enough emotional ups and downs, and losing your hair at the same time is a huge hurdle to overcome. Once Rochelle started wearing a wig that was undetectable to her peers, her confidence began to soar. She was once again able to go to the beach and sporting events with her friends, without the fear that her wig might come off. Rochelle’s current wig needs replacing, and we would like to supply her with a new wig to ensure she keeps the confidence she has worked so hard to achieve*

Manual WheelchairManual wheelchair $6,215
At four years of age, Liam needs to change from a stroller and walking frame to a manual wheelchair. He is independent when using his walking frame, but fatigues quite quickly, and then needs to be put into his stroller (which he has outgrown), or carried by a family member. He has significant developmental delay and is unaware of danger which can sometimes lead to dangerous situations when he is “out and about” with his family. He will soon learn to self-propel in his new wheelchair, giving him a much-needed sense of independence, and there is plenty of growth in the frame to ensure the chair will last him for several years*

Donation towards Myoelectric Hand ProgramCar hoist system $9,820
Thirteen-year-old Gretel is a paraplegic and relies on her power wheelchair to mobilise. Her mother drives her to and from school five days per week. Currently her mother moves her from her wheelchair to the car with a car hoist, which requires a great deal of manual handling. As Gretel is growing and becoming heavier, this method is becoming more dangerous for both Gretel and her mother. The Turny Orbit 300 is a hoist system that will fit into the family’s current vehicle. Gretel will be able to do most of the chair-to-chair transfer independently. This will improve Gretel’s sense of independence, and will also significantly reduce any risk to her family*

Liberty SwingLiberty Swing $23,000
Liberty Swings give children in wheelchairs the opportunity to swing in the air, with the wind in their face, and absolute joy in their hearts. Variety currently has a Liberty Swing application from a council in southern Sydney that is keen to install a Liberty Swing in one of their playground areas, so that children in wheelchairs can enjoy a play area alongside their siblings and friends*
